October 29-November 2nd

"October, tuck tiny candy bars in my pockets and carve my smile into a thousand pumpkins.... Merry October!"

It's an exciting week for students at LSS! We will try and fit as much learning into the week as possible, despite the expected sugar rush. :)

Students were given the spelling pretest for Lesson 5 on Tuesday morning. They will have a spelling assignment each night this week. The test will be given next Wednesday, the 7th. There will not be school on Tuesday due to Parent Conferences.

We began Unit 3 in math this week. Please see your child's Home Link each night for our daily Learning Objective.

Students are reading Food Chain Frenzy with their PEA Reading Buddies. This chapter book works as a great introduction to our Biome and Life Science Units.

We'll have our Halloween celebration on Wednesday afternoon. Thank you to our Room Parents for organizing and planning this fun event! Thank you to all the parents who contributed to it as well.

Have a wonderful week and a happy Halloween! :)

October 22-26

"In the entire circle of the year there are no days so delightful as those of a fine October."

We began our week with Literacy and Language Arts. Students worked on a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast characters in Pop's Bridge. We also worked on common and proper nouns. We will finish Lesson 4 on Wednesday. Students have two more spelling assignments due by that date.

We will finish Unit 2 in math this week. Students will review for the test on Wednesday. The assessment will be given the following day. Please check your child's Home Link for our Learning Objective each day. Students will have homework on Monday and Tuesday. They will not have any homework for the rest of the week. :)

Students worked on Growth Mindset during our PBL time this week. We will continue to practice using the word 'yet' and staying positive about our learning experiences even when writing or work gets hard. We also worked on our Community Google Slideshow and created valuable questions to ask at our visit to Saint Vincent dePaul. We are excited for our Walking Field Trip on Friday. Parent volunteers need to meet us in our classroom at 8:45am please.

Our Cornfield Character Celebration will take place on Friday as well. I'm so proud that my class has been chosen to perform a small concert for the retired teachers and community members that afternoon. Thank you to parents who helped to make this fun day so special for our school by working on Cornfield Characters and/or being a part of the set up on Friday morning.

Have a wonderful week! :)
