"The air is like a butterfly
With frail blue wings.
The happy earth looks at the sky
And sings."
We began our week by attending the fifth grade band and chorus concert. It was awesome! We all loved watching our amazing students perform in this musical event.
Ms. Karen joined us for Brain Gym following the concert. It was great to get our bodies and brains moving with the kids' choice of Sun Salutations, balance boards, skull taps, finger touches and cross crawls.
Students will work on their final presentation for their Invention PBL experience this week. Students are working on Google Slide Shows, posters and videos to share their learning and understanding.
We will finish writing poems tomorrow. These poems will be displayed for the Celebration of Learning Night coming up next week. I hope to see families at this fun event.
Students have spelling homework tonight and Tuesday. Their test will be given on Wednesday. I will wait until the following Monday to give the new pretest. :)
We will begin Unit 9 in math this week. Students will practice multiplication facts by playing Product Pile-Up. They will solve number stories by multiplying or dividing with multiples of 10. They will also use mental math steps to multiply problems involving larger factors. We will have homework on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings. I will give them Wednesday off due to the SAS testing.
Have a fantastic week!

"'Tis like the birthday of the world,
When earth was born in bloom;
The light is made of many dyes,
The air is all perfume:
There's crimson buds, and white and blue,
The very rainbow showers
Have turned to blossoms where they fell,
And sown the earth with flowers."
We had the loveliest day! We began our morning with poetry and vocabulary. Students worked on their tree diagrams which feature at least four text or graphic features. Students will be given the Vocabulary & Comprehension test on the Anchor Text tomorrow. They will be taking the STAR reading and math tests on Wednesday and Thursday. We have the Field Trip on Friday so we won't begin Unit 19 until next Monday.
Our PEA Reading Buddies joined us this morning. They worked cooperatively with students on their research for our Black American project. Students have begun the process of choosing a famous Black American to study for our Wax Museum. More information about this fun event will be forthcoming.
No spelling this week!! :)
We will finish Unit 8 in math this week. Our Learning Objectives will involve finding products for given factors and using this knowledge to play Factor Bingo. Students will model equal sharing situations with $10 and $1 bills. They will compare fractions, generate equivalent fractions and explore area. Finally they will explore the shared attributes of prisms. They will have a HomeLink each night for homework. We will review for the test next Monday and the assessment will be given the following day.
Field Trip to Manchester on Friday morning! We can't wait to see School House Rock performed live at the Palace Theater. Please remember to pack your child a lunch unless you signed up for a bagged lunch from the cafeteria.
