"February is the
border between winter and spring."
We began our week with a
writing prompt, "The most perfect place in the whole wide world
is..." I loved hearing students' creative ideas and thoughts. We also
reviewed for the reading test. Students did a great job retelling the story and
preparing for the assessment.
Our PEA Reading Buddies
joined us for a story. Students read Journey to a New Land with
their buddies. The book focuses on an Italian family's voyage to America. The
hardships outlined in this historical fiction are relatable for the immigrant
families within our classroom. :)
We will begin our new
Anchor Text tomorrow. It is a Trickster Tale titled Tops and
Bottoms. Our Essential Question relates well with our Nutrition Unit.
"Why is it important to grow food crops?" Students have been working
hard on a nutrition project that requires them to create three healthy, well
balanced meals with a $40 budget.
Students will take the
spelling pretest tomorrow. Our new rule involves Homophones. Students will have
four spelling assignments due by our test date Tuesday, February 13th.
We will finish Unit 5 in
math this week. Students will use square products to find products of near
squares. They will make sense of, and solve challenging number stories. Finally
we will decompose factors to solve multiplication facts. We will review for the
test on Thursday. Students will have a Home Link Monday through Wednesday
evenings. A review packet will go home for studying purposes on Thursday
afternoon. The assessment will be given the following day. Please look for the Family Letter for Unit 6 in your child's folder this week.
Have a wonderful
week! :)
