February 12-16

"In the coldest February, as in every other month in every other year, the best thing to hold on to in this world is each other."

We began the week with vocabulary, phonics and writing. Students have enjoyed our Anchor Text Tops and Bottoms and learning about the theme or lesson of a story. Our PEA Reading Buddies joined our class this morning as well. They read Meet Kirsten with students and discussed the immigration journey of the families in the story.

We have our spelling test tomorrow. Students have one more spelling assignment to complete before then. The next pretest will be given on Thursday. Our new rule focuses on Contractions. Students will have four spelling assignments due prior to the test on the 22nd.

Students will take the Unit 5 math test this afternoon. They will have an Open Response activity for homework tonight. We will begin Unit 6 tomorrow. Our lessons include using trade first subtraction, playing Baseball Multiplication, practicing Hot Potato with multiplication facts and using square numbers to solve problems. Students will have a Home Link on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

We will celebrate Valentine's Day on Wednesday. Students are encouraged to make valentines for each other. Please remember to include every student in the class. I sent home a class list last week. Let me know if you need a new one. We will decorate bags for our valentines tomorrow morning. Thank you to Mrs. Paterna for donating bags and popsicles for this special holiday. :)

Have a wonderful week! :)
